Introduction to Dolpa:

Dolpa is the largest district of Nepal is in the Mid-western part of the kingdom covers about 793230 hectors of the total land of the country. According to the census of 2001 A.D (2058 B.S) The total population of the district is 29584. about the naming of the district once there reach an English people called charka from tibet to Dho-Tarap village, by the same of the village Dho it become Dholpa later on the people used to say the same Dholpa as Dolpa. In Tibetan language Dolpa is famous as Tholbho.
This district is very far from the capital of the country. Dolpa is very back from the development point of view. But Dolpa district is a natural collection of high passes, rare fauna and sweeping vistas. Which is enriched by the traditional Tibetan cultural heritage? Phoksundo the deepest lake of Nepal is also in the same district which is 650 m deep. The district Dolpa is also known as Caravan's district. The film named caravan was selected for Oscar award. words rare and valuable medical plants like panch ayule, guchhi chayu and yarshagumba are also available in this district.

Natural Features and Heritage
The total area of the Dolpa district is in Himalayan Region and Northern boundary. Only the few plain made by big rivers are there in Dolpa district. The Northern boundary of the district is covered with high Naked Mountains.
Topography

59.29% of the total area of the district is covered with Rocky Mountains and snow covered in Karnali zone 70-90 % of the land is more than 300 slopes. Most of the land of the Dolpa district is sloppy.

Zoology
The zoology of dolpa district is not studied yet. Sedimentary rocks are found in this region. This area is also known as Trans Himalayan zone. Which is also known as cold Desert? The geographical characteristic of Dolpa is the country or rolling hills/cosmic activities free. According geo-surface the district can be divided into four parts.
  1. Bhot Region :
Almost all part of dolpa is in this region. The area between Northern Boarder and Southern Himalaya is known as bhot region. The region is 3660-4878 m high from sea level. Which covers about 1158 Square kilometer? This area is the largest dry area of the country. Where there is full of concrete and sand. Among 23 v.d.c of dolpa 7 of them are in this place. Which is also famous for highest settlement area of the world?
  2. Himali Region :

This region covers over 4869m of height from sea level. The region always covered with snow. This place is the origin of river and streams.

  3. Alpine Region :
This is one of the main branches of Himalaya as region. High altitude plateau and range are in this area. This area is covered with snow in winter and grassland in summer. This area is very important for medical herbs and grazing field.
  4. Mountain Region :

This region is made by the big river and its tributaries flow in this region. Thulli Bheri and Sanni Bheri are the two big river flows in this region where most the settlement are settled. The headquarter of the district dunai is in the same place.

 

River :

According to rivers point of views dolpa can be divided into two different parts. The Thulli Bheri and Sanni Bheri are the two Big Rivers and its tributaries are suligad, rupgad, jairigad, byasgad, karap gad and so on.

 

Lakes And Ponds :

Phoksundo Lake: - Phoksundo is also known as rigmo Lake. The lake is in the height of 3613m from the sea level. The total area of the lake is 6.78 square kilometer. The length of the lake is 4.8 km north to south and width of the lake is 1.6 km east to west. Phoksundo Lake is in phoksundo v.d.c except this lake there are so many other small lakes and ponds in dolpa. among them some are as follows. sundaha, khalital, sakudaha, chumkanatal etc.

 

Springs And Fountains :

# . Suligad (Bahuli gad) Spring :
Suligad is the Second biggest spring of Nepal which is in the height of 2613 meter from the sea level. This is in phoksundo v.d.c. The spring is 1.6 kilo meter south of phoksundo Lake. The source of water in this spring is phoksundo Lake. except this khaliban spring and many other spring are there in dolpa district.

Bhangang :
Morem, pindu, jangla, yanang, yala mai, khun, peet, phosta etc are the famous bhangang of the district.

Climate :

The climate in dolpa is very cold. The maximum temperature in summer is 220 and minimum in winter is -100. The large area of the district contain dry climate. Only in the southern part of the district is effected by monsoon. The total yearly rainfall is about 245ml.

Himali Climate :

This climate is only above height of 1077m from sea level. Because of snow cover this area is very cold, in summer also there is very cold. So there is no any human activity. Only snow fall is there but no rainfall possible in this area.

Alpine Climate :

This climate covers about 3961-4077 m of height from sea level. This climate is warm in summer and very cold in winter.

Sub Temperature Climate :

Only found in south west part below 2134 m in river bond area. in this area the climate is cold in winter and faisly hot in summer
